PRESURGICAL MEDICAL ASSESSMENT
When evaluating a patient preoperatively, it is critical that the surgeon examine the patient’s medical status. Patients may have a variety of maladies that require treatment modification before the required surgery can be performed safely. Special measures may be needed to control bleeding, prevent infection, and prevent worsening of the patient’s preexisting disease state. This information is discussed in detail in Chapter. The reader should refer to that chapter for information regarding the specifics of
altering treatment for medical management reasons.
